For a lot of you, the celebrations of New Year’s have come and gone. For the people of China, and many other neighbouring countries like Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia, the New Year is celebrated in February. February 8, 9 and 10 to be exact. The Chinese New Year in Phuket is not to be missed if you will be renting our condos in Surin or living in one of our villas in Kalim!
So vibrantly beautiful are the Chinese New Year events in Phuket that people actually travel to the Thai island specifically to enjoy the festivities. The medley of shows, entertainment and live music will be held at the public park on Her Majesty the queen’s sixth cycle birthday Anniversary Park. Phuket Town is easily accessible from our villas in Kalim and condos in Surin, so you can make your way to the event, which is a joint effort from Phuket City and the Tourism Authority of Thailand Phuket office (TAT).
The following roads will be closed for the celebrations:
- Thalang Road
- Dibuk Road
- Krabi Road
- Phang Nga Road
As the traffic stops, the fun begins. Traditional dancing and dragon dancing can be enjoyed, as well as art, music and high-energy performances. Red banners will adorn the entrances to local businesses and if you keep your eyes open, you’ll catch a glimpse of the flower, orange and tangerine-filled trays that decorate Chinese homes.
